    Subaru Reveal Legacy STI S402
    May 19th, 2008

    Subaru Legacy STI S402
If you’ve ever had trouble trying to find a car that’s just as good at clipping apexes at your local circuit as it is at taking the dog to the vet, then look no further: Subaru’s Legacy STI S402 could be just the thing you need. After a lengthy teaser campaign, Subaru have finally released specs and pictures of the S402, which comes in either sedan or wagon flavour. This ain’t no badged-up trim package either: the differences between the S402 and the regular Legacy are rather substantial, with significant changes being made to the engine, suspension, braking and styling - all of which are intended to increase the car’s sporting prowess.Let’s start with the engine. It’s Subaru’s ubiquitous EJ25 2.5-litre flat-four, which in S402 trim belts out a respectable 210kW and 392Nm with some help from a low-restriction exhaust, twin-scroll turbocharger and AVCS variable valve timing. It’s not enough to worry your average WRX STI, but it’s still a very handy increase over the 190kW offered by the standard Legacy. The suspension and chassis are perhaps the most comprehensively modified parts of the S402. Bilstein dampers and springs stiffen up the ride and provide a drop in height, while most suspension links now use pillow balls (rose-joints) instead of the standard squishy rubber bushes. Front and rear suspension tower bars are standard on the S402 and do much to eliminate chassis flex over bumps and during hard cornering.Monstrous 6-piston Brembo calipers grip the front rotors, while two-piston Brembos work the rear. The rotors themselves are of a two-piece floating design, which promotes even pad wear and consistent force during “spirited” driving and tyres are sticky Bridgestone Potenza RE050As in 235/40R18. STI have also chosen to fit a 13:1 steering rack to drop the amount of turns from lock-to-lock, a clear sign of the S402’s sporting pretensions. The exterior of the car hasn’t escaped STI’s touch either. The front guards have been widened by 20mm each side, while an STI aero kit helps differentiate the S402 from the cooking model Legacy. Those that plan on eventually tracking their S402 would be pleased to note that a dry carbon front splitter is also part of the package, and according to STI does much to improve stability and high-speed cornering. Forged 18-inch BBS rims look great while also reducing unsprung weight. Dry weight is 1490kg for the sedan, and 1520kg for the wagon. Now for the catch. Like most of these hi-po special editions, the Legacy STI S402 is for the JDM-only. Not only that, but there’ll only be a limited run of - you guessed it - 402 cars. Prices start at JPY 5,355,000 for the sedan, and the only gearbox available is a 6-speed, which suits us just fine. The S402 goes on sale on June 27.Subaru’s dedicated S402 site is here, however those with an irrational fear of Kanji should look away - it’s entirely in Japanese. However, If you just want to look at some pretty pictures we’ve got you covered: Check out our new-fangled gallery below.

Geneva 2008: Subaru wants to be tops in EVs, The Blue is going GREEN
    March 13th, 2008

Geneva 2008: Subaru wants to be tops in EVsPosted Mar 6th 2008 4:59PM by Alex NunezWhile the Legacy Boxer Diesel was technically the big showpiece for Subaru at Geneva, a glance at the automaker’s booth showed that electric vehicles were given equally prominent billing. The R1e was set up alongside the G4e concept that made its debut at last year’s Tokyo Motor Show. The R1e is an all-electric variant of the Japan-only R1 microcar. Right now, 40 of the Pokemon-looking EVs are in service with Tokyo Electric Power Co. in Japan, where they’re being field-tested by employees. When connected to a quick charger, its battery power can be replenished in just 15 minutes. Fully charged, it has an operating range of around 100 kilometers. Next year, Subaru hopes to increase the test fleet to 100 cars. The G4e represents Subaru’s longer-term goals. Equipped with Li-Ion battery technology, the lightweight 5-door EV concept should offer double the range of the R1e. In his remarks to the assembled media, Fuji Heavy Industries president Ikuo Mori said, “Subaru’s goal is to become the leading brand in the electric vehicle market.” He then added that the automaker would continue its EV development programs with an eye towards creating the ultimate zero-emissions car for urban commuters. Something like that G4e with a legit 125-mile range would look mighty attractive with oil prices being what they are today. Thanks to AutoblogGREEN

    Diesel Powered STI ?
    March 13th, 2008

According to AutoExpress, Subaru is working on a diesel version of the Impreza WRX STI. It will be powered by a 2.0-litre flat-four cylinder boxer unit that delivers 148 hp. A tuned version with 180bhp (which is really sad hopefully they can work on that) could be used in a racy STI version. The engine delivers a peak torque of around 400Nm – up 50Nm on the petrol engine – and the high-performance model could sprint from 0-60mph in seven seconds and accelerate on to a top speed of 140mph.The diesel version of the Impreza WRX STI will have a fuel economy of around 45mpg. The powerplant weighs no more than the current version, and would also help slash the STI’s emissions by nearly 40 per cent, from the petrol’s 243g/km to about 155g/km.Diesel is a great way for Subaru to appeal to a larger market, but some think it could come at the expense of “loyal” sti owners. Although diesel engines are known to produce large amounts of power and even bigger torque curves, this has yet to be shown with the recent release.

Joey Kramer Owns an STI ???
    March 11th, 2008

Thats right Joey Kramer was an 06 STI owner ! How do you like Aerosmith now ?   Joey Kramer’s Subaru STi on eBay

If you were a drummer from a crazy rock-star band I would assume you would

drivemore then a Subaru STi but who knows, that might just be the style for this drummer from Aerosmith.

Not much info is really out there about Joeys car, but it definitely makes us want to listen to more Aerosmith!

Joey’s car is slightly modded with an SPT short ram intake (probably for the sound :) )

and a license plate delete . Who could ask for a better car to get away from those terrible photographers with.
